Dear Neighbors,
I am writing to share my full endorsement of Aaron Perry for Davis County Sheriff. I have
known Aaron and his wife since they started working in the Sheriff’s Office ambulance division
back in the 1990s. I later instructed some of Aaron’s police academy classes.
During my time as a Captain at the Sheriff’s Office and as an investigator for the Medical
Examiner’s office, I worked with Aaron on many occasions. I was always impressed with his
eagerness to learn and his curiosity about tasks that weren’t his direct responsibility including
crime scene investigations and evidence preservation. He was always eager to understand how he
could be helpful to me as a medical examiner. I have seen firsthand that he is a hard-working
family man and a dedicated public servant. He always leads with integrity and takes initiative to
get things done.
I worked for the Davis County Sheriff’s Office for 45 years, serving under nine different Sheriffs
and serving in every leadership position except for Sheriff. I served as Chief Deputy under
Sheriff Glenn Clary. During my career, I have worked for individuals that exhibited great
leadership and I have worked for others that taught me what not to do. I have observed in Aaron
the qualities of a great leader, specifically his desire and ability to help those around him
succeed.
Managing a $60 million budget and leading 350 employees is a massive responsibility. It
requires someone with proven, executive-level law enforcement experience. If you look at the
minimum requirements to be a Police Chief in Davis County, they are 10 to 15 years of law
enforcement experience, with several years at the level of Lieutenant or higher. These
departments are smaller than the Sheriff’s Office, yet they still set a high bar for leadership. This
shows why the position of Sheriff requires someone with a truly substantial background.
Aaron Perry has 23 years of law enforcement experience, including nine years in executive roles
as a Chief Deputy and Deputy Chief. He has the exact skills and experience needed for this job.
That is why I am proud to endorse Aaron Perry for Davis County Sheriff.
Respectfully,
Kenny Payne
