“I’ve been asked a lot lately about the Davis County Sheriff race, so here’s where I stand.

I’m supporting Aaron Perry because I believe effective law enforcement leadership requires two things: competence and character.

Character absolutely matters. Integrity, humility, service, and emotional intelligence are essential. But for a position as important as sheriff, those qualities must be matched with proven experience. The job requires sound judgment, budget oversight, personnel management, executive-level decision-making, and the ability to lead large, complex public safety operations.

There is no fast track to that kind of competence, and no substitute for earning it through years of progressively greater responsibility.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is a large public safety agency with responsibilities that include law enforcement operations, a correctional facility, and a budget exceeding $50 million.

That level of responsibility should be led by someone with significant command-level and executive experience.

Aaron has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience, including 16 years with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office. He has served in executive leadership roles as Deputy Chief in Roy City and Chief Deputy in Weber County, overseeing corrections, enforcement, and administration.

He holds a Master of Public Administration, graduated from the FBI National Academy, and has extensive experience managing people, budgets, and complex operations.

Like Sergeant Atkin, I too served in the National Guard. And I know service members do not go straight to the top simply because they are good people or because they have served honorably. For good reason, they are promoted step by step. They gain experience, lead at different levels, prove themselves under increasing responsibility, and develop the judgment required for higher command.

Law enforcement leadership is no different. The Sheriff’s Office is a very complex organization, and there is no room for a learn-as-you-go leader in a position of this magnitude.

I believe both candidates care deeply about the community. But when I compare the preparation, progression, and experience required to lead an agency of this size and responsibility, Aaron Perry is the only choice. Davis County deserves a sheriff with both character and competence, and Aaron Perry has earned my support.”
